A Tsonokwa mask from British Columbia, this pendant preserves the memory of a powerful figure from the Kwakwaka’wakw traditions of the Northwest Coast.
Also known as “Dzunuk’wa” or “Dzoonokwa”, depending on the transcription, Tsonokwa is often described as the “Wild Woman of the Woods”: a dark, feared, at times threatening figure, yet also endowed with great powers and associated with wealth, abundance and good fortune.
Her face thus holds a rare tension: fear and gift, shadow and prosperity, threat and beneficent power.
Transformed into a pendant, this mask preserves the intensity of force and fortune.
Tsonokwa II is a Protection Jewel.
