Protect

Protection Jewels:
contemporary apotropaic signs.
Historically, jewellery did not merely adorn: it protected. In its apotropaic function — from the Greek apotrépein, “to ward off” — it served to deflect harm, hold disturbance at a distance, and inscribe around the body a protective perimeter.

Gabriela Sismann’s jewels of protection reactivate this lineage through a distinctly contemporary lens.

To wear a jewel of protection is to define a boundary around oneself: symbolic, invisible, yet active.

A link to the past, worn in the present.
A jewel to ward off, preserve, and hold steady.

What these jewels do

They create inner steadiness.
They make a boundary tangible.
They accompany over time.
Each fragment is authenticated, dated, and contextualised. The transformation of the ancient object into jewellery anchors it in the present without diminishing its force.
