A rare antique-style medallion crafted in Murano glass, depicting Giulia, daughter of Emperor Titus, this necklace belongs to the great tradition of the portrait medal — born in Antiquity and reimagined by humanist Europe.
During the Renaissance, the profile portrait experienced a true revival, driven by the emergence of a new secular individualism and a renewed fascination with classical civilizations. The earliest medals were cast in bronze, lead, tin, silver or gold, using the lost-wax casting technique. Inspired by ancient cameos and intaglios, Neoclassical medallions were brought back into favour by the artists of the Grand Tour, who travelled through Rome, Florence and Venice, competing in technical mastery and invention, particularly through the use of rare materials.
What once belonged to the humanist portrait now touches the skin.
Giulia is an Elevation jewel.
