History
This necklace preserves the memory of an object of faith and protection: the Orthodox pectoral icon, or travelling icon.

Deeply rooted in Russian spirituality, the travelling icon accompanied believers on their journeys, offering the presence of a sacred image and a constant spiritual connection. Often given as a gift in childhood, before a departure, a journey or war, it carried an essential blessing: to protect life, preserve health and ensure a safe return.

Hung on the doors of homes, integrated into iconostases or affixed to funerary crosses, it also formed a kind of intimate, mobile altar. Made of metal and easy to carry, it could be sewn inside garments, close to the body, sometimes directly against the skin.

Believers attached particular value to the fire involved in its making. The images of saints, born from heated and worked metal, were perceived as luminous, radiant, almost purified by flame.

What once belonged to prayer, blessing and sacred protection now meets the skin.
